Personally, I think it's good they don't. Having 'Iraq' for the modern country
leaves 'Mesopotamia' free as the name for the geographical region.
Now, if they'd stuck to 'Persia' for the country, we'd have 'Iran' strictly
for the geographical region, and, best of all, I wouldn't so frequently get
annoyed by supposedly educated people who cannot tell Iran and Iraq apart.
