What really annoys me is when people use 'Turkey'
of Asia Minor or Anatolia before, say, the 15th
century.

OTOH there is the medieval glossary which finds
it necessary to explain 'Gallia' and 'Italia'
with 'Frantia' and 'Langobardia'!
