Historically, that is exactly his title: "Mr. President", as decided by
the First Congress. (Definitely better than "His Elective Majesty".)
It was as a deliberate symbol of republicanism (the rejection of monarchy
and aristocracy) that Americans chose to give their leader precisely the
title of a private citizen.
When a woman gets the job, we'll have to see whether it's "Madam President"
or "M[r]s. President".
