Well, I do, and not that rarely (though a subject of conversation when I can say that is not frequent :)) ).

That I agree. Most people won't use the word indigo, simply because they are not used to use it. SO when stumbling upon that colour, most people will call it "a kind of blue" or "a kind of purple" since they are not used, unlike with other colours, to associate the word "indigo" with that shade.
