In the olden days (up to maybe 1950s), it was customary to use a little
"blueiing" solution in your white laundry. For some reason it made the
whites look whiter. Elderly white-haired women (perhaps mostly in the
provinces, where sophisticated salons were rare) took to using the same
stuff in their shampoo. The right amount did indeed make the hair look
whiter. But sometimes they used a bit too much, hence, Blue Hair. My dear
departed grandmother (1875-1963) was prone to do this..............
We whities (even us guys) no longer have to guess how much to use-- there
are Wonder Shampoos that have just the right amount of blue in them. It's
FAAABulous. And you young whippershappers will get there too, someday.
