Oops! Japanese has nothing to do with IE languages, and a structure so
different that I can't even imagine how it could be descended from IE. Japanese
is an isolate with a probable connection to Korean (although the exact nature
of this connection, genetic relationship or strong mutual influence a long time
ago, is not known) and a hypothetical connection to Altaic languages. The only
connection to IE languages I've seen is that it's part of the Nostratic combo,
at least according to some people who accept the Nostratic hypothesis (and
then, not even all of them agree :)) ).
