In Texas I hear [x] about as much as [h]. I wonder if that's caused by
there being two strata of Mexican-American population, the first around
the years of the Republic of Texas, and the second being the modern wave
of Latino migration.
I've gotten into the practice of saying [xalapenjo], but [sinko] not
[Tinko].
