I'm not sure which; there may be variation, as in German.  American English
with /R/ sounds really amazing, though at least the spelling is consistent

So it is in Britain.  In America, the apical /r/ seems either affected
or British (or both).  I suspect it is apical in the rest of the world,
though (there is Brithenig in the Southern Hemisphere, but nobody has
details yet: NZ, Aus, SA, Argentina?).
