Kara amiko,

en la and de la are never contracted in Esperanto. "L'abelo" is a possible
form in the spoken language as the sounds tend to ellide naturally but you
would seldom fins such a thing in print uless preceded by and preposition
ending in a vowel:

"tra l'arbaro" (through the forest)

"de l'urbo" (from the city)

Please note, however that "tra la arbaro" and "de la urbo" are prefered and
standard.
