Note that IML both the thing in the kitchen and the thing in the
bathroom are called "sinks", and what differences there are between
them are insufficient to put them in different categories.
We have a double sink in the kitchen, and I suppose if pressed to come
up with a specific, technical term for one or the other depression as
opposed to the unit as a whole, I might call it a 'basin". But in
daily use I just say "the left side" (or "the garbage disposal side")
and "the right side", qualified with "of the sink" if needed.
