The vowel-length distinction is all over the place in AusE (and non-rhotic Englishes generally), so I don't know why it's less suitable for importance than any other one... I also have only the glottal stop (well, and presence or absence of [n] after a nasalized vowel), in emphasized versions: I ['k_h&n] go vs I ['k_h&~?] go; but if the emphasis is not on "can", the positive form becomes [k_hn=] instead. -- Mark J.
