You are correct. French _chez_ is descended from the same Latin root as
Spanish and Italian _casa_. The initial letter c (/k/) of most Latin roots
beginning with the letters ca- evolved into an initial ch- in French
(originally pronounced /tS/ and now /S/. For example, compare French
_chanter_ with Spanish _cantar_ and Italian _cantare_.
