Well, don't skim then! I don't. I just look down the list of subject lines and delete or leave the ones I choose. Going through the whole queue of subject lines takes less time than reading one fairly short message.

Good pattern recognition and memory for what was in previous messages of a certain subject line, I guess.

Perhaps not if you're seeing it for the first time! For example, I have no idea what sort of messages got this thread started: I mean "blocking the list"? I don't even know what that means. All I know is that I associate our discussion with the above subject thread. As for new threads, I guess I just have to make a decision whether or not to keep it. I seem to find more than enough interesting posts and threads to get involved in! ;)

But there's no doubled effort. I don't even see the messages until after I've scanned the queue.
