I'm not sure about a lateral approximant - is it the Spanish <ll> or
Portuguese <lh>?

Both the same sound, a voiceless lateral fricative, written
barred-small-l in IPA. To pronounce it position your tongue as if to
say "l" and, without moving the tongue, try to say "s".
