Exactly.
"Flies" in this context = "fly balls", that is, baseballs that have
been hit in a high arc and have not yet hit the ground (catching a
fly ball retires the batter). As for shagging them, that merely
means pursuing them with intent to catch them; AFAIK this verb is
not applied in this sense to other things.
