The assumption is indeed safe, at least in the case of "le cation" in my Nouveau
Petit Larousse. (Incredibly, it does not have "le pankration;" those who doubt
me (Me? Doubted?) may feel free to look it up on the internet...lots of neat
sites.) I'm sure there are plenty of Greek loanwords ending in -tion that fit
this pattern.
