So, I wonder: At what point do these become separate sounds? They all
sound similar. I find that I produce the...uh, Me-Style /S/ everywhere
except when it occurs before alveolar segments. So, the word "washed" is
[wASt] whereas the word "wash" is [wAS_m.s.] (that "m.s." is for "me-style").
I'm going to think about this more now, though. I'll try to see what I do
when I'm not thinking about it.
