In my intro to Linguistics class, it became the class motto that, when in doubt on what phonetic symbol would be used by a certain dialect, put a schwa in. Was rather funny because the professor never really refuted it. Of course the class wasn't full of serious linguists. I'm here at an engineering school, most took it thinking it would be a snoozer. -- Patrick
