Yes, it does tend to somewhat. I was astonished the first time I ran
a quick phoneme count on my dictionary! As others have pointed out
already, one solution is to simply make a conscious effort to include
the rarer phonemes on purpose, but my problem there is that the words
that "feel right" seem more often to contain the popular sounds. I've
now decided not to worry about this - to include the rarer ones where
I can, but accept that there's nothing wrong with a bit of imbalance.
I also appear to be guilty of favouring phonemes based on how much I
like the appearance of their romanised character, which is a terrible
reason! (I appear unable to separate the roman alphabet from sounds,
unfortunately. If anything, I find the reverse easier. But that's a
whole 'nother subject right there, and rather off-topic too. :-)
