I've come across an interesting series of textbooks
"Understanding Language" from Hodder Education, UK, which
would probably be of interest to those who want to self-
educate themselves in linguistics. I myself am hardly an
innocent anymore, so I'm not entirely fit to judge,
but of those I've seen "Understanding Morphology" is
very good and the first edition of "Understanding Phonology"
good, and I'm going to check out "Understanding Syntax" ASAP.

The web page for the series is at <http://tinyurl.com/2z7p8q>.

No man forgets his original trade: the rights of
nations and of kings sink into questions of grammar,
if grammarians discuss them.
