Though I consider "A Clockwork Orange" to be a masterpiece, I do not otherwise care for Anthony Burgess's work very much. I find him too cold and cerebral, even for my academic tastes. But from what I've seen of his work, he seems to enjoy playing creatively with language--though much more in the tradition of Lewis Carroll or James Joyce than of Tolkien. Other than Nadsat and the Quest for Fire languages, the only other conlanging effort of his that I'm aware of is his parody of Newspeak from his novel "1985". Matt.
