Whereas I find him to be bursting with vim, energy and moral and intellectual
passion. He's not the writer I admire most, or at least not the writer I
place at the acme of the art, but he's the one I feel the most fraternally
towards. And in my evidently rather charmed life to date, Burgess's death
caused me more grief than anyone else's has.

I agree. Like Nabokov, he's much more a glossophile than a conlanger.
