I'm jumping a bit late into this (I am not new, i
changed to this email from
Havent had much time to jump in, but anyway...

In California (if this wasnt mentioned), in order to
get in to college in the CSU system, one has to take a
minimum of two years of foreign language, and they
have to be the same language. The UC system requires 4
years i believe.

At my university, we require about three semesters of
foreign language, which equal 3 years of instruction
in HS. Some majors require "intermediate advanced
speaking level" which means you can have a simple, yet
somewhat complex conversation on different topics with
a native speaker. My major, World Languages and
Cultures (emphasis spanish), requires graduates to be
"advanced level proficiency as defined by the American
Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages". Which
is why i'm forced to go study abroad for a semester at
least (oh my, what torture! :)). My degree isnt just
language, it's also cultural knowledge, so i have a
wide array of graduate school options.

One of the reasons i've stuck with this university,
despite some of the problems (new school, growing pains)
