In The Netherlands, where we have different levels of high school (ages
12-16/18), they teach at least English (3-6 years) and German (3-5 years),
and on all but the lowest levels also French (3-6 years). On the Gymnasium,
Latin (4-6 years) and Ancient Greek (3-5 years) are compulsory as well.
Other languages I have seen taught in high school, though never compulsory,
were Spanish, Russian, Italian, Chinese and Japanese, usually for up to 2
years.
Most elementary schools (ages 6-12) teach one or two years of introductory
english as well in the later classes, and some (like mine) even do some
German and/or French.
