For sure. In English I would also use "were" here. But the Rhean past tense
is 'kinda' perfective; it suggests something's finished.

Sorry 'bout that... I usually leave out the X-SAMPA 'cause phonology is the
part that interests me less than the rest. But here it is for mine, no huge
