Aside from one's PhD dissertation or a treatise on nuclear physics etc., I can't think of a single instance where it would be inappropriate............Neither cool nor un-cool, simply familiar and friendly. What are the alternatives? "Post an epistle to me" ? "Send me a letter/email" ? Drop Pedanto a line telling him/her/it to go..........never mind :-))) You, like 99.999...% of L2 Engl. users on this list, have nothing to worry about. (It's the native speakers we have to worry about)
