I stole the idea from Ilonggo, which is a Filipino language. I thought the
idea was cool to have. At least in Saalangal, it indicates something that
two people take part in that goes back and forth between them. Ligáskud
can also mean an arguement, or a debate, depending upon context.
For ilonggo, the affix is: -ay: baisay - to argue, debate, discuss.
It appears to derive from "-anay", which seems to be a verbal affix, and
means similarly:
nagahigugmaanay sila - they love each other
naga - indicates an action that has begun and hasnt completed
higugma - to love
anay - indicates the action is reciprocal

Indeed :). Essentially the origin is lost in time, since Saalangal has no
relatives to compare it by :).

Thanks! Well, Saalangal is my attempt at something that sounds Filipino. I
didn't want to just take Tagalog an alter it (I already have Montreiano
:)), so i thought up something that sounds similar, acts similar, but
works a bit differently (the trigger system doesnt work like Tagalog, and
there is definite tense).
Those of you who are interested in Ilonggo may want to check it out.
Ilonggo is very similar to Tagalog (obviously it's related), but there are
some neat differences such as "sang" instead of "ng" for "of".
here's a great page, which guided me in the construction of Saalangal
affixes:
