My world doesn's have equinoxes. Almaran's axis is not tilted significantly with respect to its orbital plane. However, the planet does have seasons. These are caused by the somwhat elliptical orbit around its central star, so that the distance between planet and sun varies significantly. This means, however, that cold and warm seasons are at the same time, on all parts of the planet. The coldest day of the year is also the last day of the year in most of the cultures. It is the day before the planet starts coming closer to the sun (the solar disc is steadily growing from then). In most cultures of the world, this is a cause for great celebrations. In one of the drozzes of Norillar, for instance, it signals the start of the Annual Snowdrop Competition. The first person to find a Snowdrop after the "winter's turn", may present the flower to the youngest son or daughter of the Drenk of Krasnodar (the ruler of the drozz), upon which he or she will receive a reward of 10 Emperial Ducats (which is 3 to 4 monthly wages for an average craftsman). During the "summer's turn", the day at which the distance beween the planet and the sun has reached its minimum and the solar disc starts getting smaller, the people lament for the coming of the winter. In Norillar, eveybody gives something to the poor on this day, to remind them to start saving for the coming winter time. Maarten
