Hmm. I'm thinking really long-term-- 750 years. So the Islamic parallel--
from the Hejira to 1920s-- may be apt. Or somewhat earlier..sometimes I get
the impression that the ruination of Islamic culture was not so much the
Christians as the Ottomans...:-) The Gwr were the Masters of the Planet,
then suddenly weren't, and aren't anymore, though they're scheming.....
Maybe it's time I let them get over it.
