Also in use: Michiganite and Michiganian [mISI'geyni@n]; and one of the

Doesn't it? "Utahan" looks better to me....
A few other state-names give problems: what do we call people from
Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Illinois, Arkansas? (This last is
['ark@nsO@n] I think but the spelling "Arkansasan" would be deceptive--, or
perhaps [ar'k&nz@n] based on the incorrect pronunciation [ar'kanz@s] by
analogy with Kansas:Kansan).
Robert Kennedy ( a Massachusetts-an?), when he ran for Senator from New
York, is said to have begun a campaign speech with "Fellow New Yorkites..."
