Oh ambiguity! The intended meaning was 'I was happy *that it rained*
because I was hot [and the rain cooled me]'. Otherwise, I see you've
respected the original text. About the fact of no birthday gifts...

I don't think it's that long, and certainly not 'lamentably long'.
It's longer, probably, because you've chosen to have a quite restrictive
phonology *and* a (poly?)synthetic grammar with compulsory agreement mark=
s
(and of other types, like INCH... aspect?).
