An auxiliary verb, required in English because of a requirement that
"not" follow an auxiliary, rather than a lexical verb (with the
exception of "be" or, in some dialects, "have") and that subjects follow
the auxiliary in questions (again, except for "be" or, in some dialects,
"have").
