It means "fan" in Japanese. More exactly, an otaku is someone who is
nearly devoted to the thing or the person s/he likes. This phenomenon is
more important than simple fans in occidental countries. But for instance,
someone who likes Elvis Presley, lives in a house where every piece of
furniture is devoted to the King, trains to speak like the King, behave
like the King, wears like the King, then he can be called _otaku_. I'm
exaggerating of course (but not so much :) ). Well, I think that I'm near
to an otaku myself when I think of it (Moon Prism Power, make up! :) ).
