Well, according to the PIE notes in the American Heritage Dictionary that
I've got, Latin _dies_ 'day' is from *dye, a variant of *deiw, 'to shine,'
while English _time_ is from PIE *da or *dai, 'to divide.' The edition I
reference was published in 1981; I don't know how much the current theories
have deviated from Calvert Watkins' text here.
By the way, to those who are awaiting my PIE vocabulary list taken from this
glossary, Real Life has been interfering, but I hope to get back into it
soon; sorry for the delay.
