I read that they changed it to use internationnal words That alphabet is done to be internationnal and usable by people not speaking the same languages Chosen words are easier to pronounce and are often the same or very similar in a lot of languages Also these words are easier to translate to someone who doesn't know english when it has to be used in an other country So that's only for the internationnal use that the words have been changed But anyway, only the first letter counts and the better ones are those who don't use it the same way I imagine you heard about American Navaho soldiers in WW2 with their code using representations for usual words and some Navaho words for letters the translation of Ant for A the translation of Bear for B I like to read about these codes used in wars: have you heard about the german code machine in the Worlds War 2? -Max
