Back when I was learning how to type (we're talking ancient history
here) we were taught to us "c" then backspace and type "|" for ¢.
So,
you might ask, "Why then is there a $? One could type "S" then
backspace and type "|"." You got me. I do remember that at one time
the $ had two vertical strokes through it. Maybe that prevented
backspacing. There, 2¢ more! :-)
