Hard to avoid, given the non-rhotic Eastern Seaboard cities (except
Philadelphia), the non-rhotic South, non-rhotic RP speakers on TV and
movies (lots of RP villains), and non-rhotic African American English
varieties.
BTW, I'm not sure why my boss chose his one and only Australian employee to
record the Reuters Health general greeting, but anyone who wonders what
Australians sound like outside the movies is invited to call +1 212 273 1700;
hang up when the recording is over, please.
