la-crescye:  usually used in "la-crescyen", a learned person.  But
   it doesn't get Whitman's irony
tirsu: "tir" is the usual word for a number.  Adding the "su" here
   makes it a bit less direct, "quantity", maybe
ultaw cawle frenal: "ultay frenal" is a line of things one behind
   another.  So this means "line up one behind the other"
so: like an impersonal pronoun, one/they/people.  Using a passive
   makes it very clumsy
suma: ACC of "su".  "su" refers to "frezasu tirsu"
lesh falon: "lesh" is a modal for distributed, spread out actions,
   here with "falon"=speak, used for "lecture"
tabanonvay vas adocriasesniw: I assume Whitman means that there was
   much applause in the lecture-room, not in the lecture-room he
   lectured with much applause
ow: you can't use a relative like "cwand"=when or "cwalof"=where in
   EA without some antecedent.  Here it's the particle "o", in the
   adverbial form
mendel-pe-camelty'in: when Whitman says "How soon, unaccountable, I"
   I assume he means it's he that is unaccountable.  This means
   "inexplicable I"
lacafgaw: "till" in the original really means something like "to the
   extent that in the end..."  Well, I gave up trying to translate
   that.  "lacafgaw" just means "in the end".
yu: this makes the preceeding clause qualify the verb in this one
clef: a modal for casual actions.  "Clef irut"="go casually" is the
   usual translation for "wander" but here we're using "etse"="go
   outside" in place of irut
