Depending on how well you can define which font you are using
(which ought to be easier in a PDF-file than in an HTML-file,
for example), you could select a font that has "lowercase numbers"
(is this a well-known term? I mean the numbers where 3,4,5,7 and 9
extend below the line, 6 and 8 above it, and 0, 1 and 2 are exactly
the line height). These go together very well with lowercase letters
in one word, IMHO.
I've put a small example online, and even though it is just a
nonsense-word, you can see that the numbers fit in with the letters
really well: http://www.ewoudnet.nl/ruittenb/lowercase_numbers.jpg
(This example uses the Berling Antiqua font).
