That's all too true. Even *Latin* is not a dead language, though; it's still being used actively (by the Vatican, and groups of enthusiasts everywhere - I wish I had time to join in), and it's still changing. In the dictionary of contemporary Latin (a work in progress; I think they've reached something like R) there are words for "computer", "sewing machine" and "airplane".
