This can be explained by the fact that this editorial was *really*
written in 1973. I doesn't change much, but it explained both of those
things.

As am I. I am by no means anti-American, but the "Yay! America" attitude
gets to bothering me in sufficient quantities.

Remember, this editorial was also written to get Canadians to stop
dumping on the US, not to be something for Americans to gloat over. For
the record.
