Something like that. What it does is put the most frequent
letters, including the vowels, in the home row, and least
frequent on the bottom row to optimize overall throughput, at
least for English. There's no doubt it's more efficient than
QWERTY, but it's hard to change something that's so
well-established.

I was a pretty quick with just my index fingers when I first
starting using computers, then I finally stopped and forced
myself to learn the "proper" way of touch typing, but I too will
sometimes cross over when it seems quicker or more convenient.
For example, I'm usually more comfortable using my right index
finger for B, which technically should be the left finger. I
also have some one-handed techniquess because sometimes I don't
like to let go of the mouse, or for those times when I'm trying
to hold my laptop because I don't have a place to set it down.
