"apyon" seems really familiar. Is it from Latin?

This seems familiar too...

While I've never seen this before, it seems like a "tigerish" sort of name.

Ditto.
In one of my conlangs, Morgenón, there is a traditional alphabet listing.
A is for argón (tree)
A' is for álún (sheep)
B is for ban'ir (castle)
C is for cath (grandfather)
D is for dwén (twig)
D' is for d'ran (sky)
E is for elaf (bread)
E' is for énd'ara (gold)
F is for felu (wind)
G is for garod (wolf)
H is for hól (sun)
I is for irwo" (sea)
I' is for ínath (mouse)
L is for las (heart)
M is for morga (breath, language)
N is for norím (bear)
N' is for n'afa (cloth)
O is for ordén (elk)
O' is for ógún (giant)
O: is for öru (salamander)
O" is for o"gan (badger)
P is for paras (cobblestone)
R is for regún (stream)
S is for surúl (moss)
SH is for shur (wagon)
T is for tarfan (horse)
T' is for t'an (fencepost)
TH is for thegir (boat)
U is for uthul (cave)
U' is for úl (barrel)
U: is for üren (salmon)
U" is for u"gor (mountain lion)
W is for walil (pine needle)
In light of the discussions on animal alphabets, I looked over the list
again. Out of 33 letters, 11 are animals and 4 are plants. That seemed
interesting to me.
