I have seen research reports that suggest there is not a gene for
left-handedness per se: there is a gene for a strong righthanded bias
and one for no strong bias. Lefthanders and some righthanders express
the no strong bias gene. If you have a lefthanded parent and show some
lefthanded behaviors, you are probably in the no strong bias group.
My youngest brother is a strong righthander (he says his left hand is
just an onlooker) as was my father. My Mom and I and my other brother
show various patterns of lefthandedness. Oddly, I always use scissors
righthanded, which was a problem at home because my Mom only bought
lefthanded scissors...
