That's kind-of what I suspect too-- assuming creaky voice involves greater
tension in the muscles of the pharynx or larynx, there may be some tongue
root retraction, which possibly could lower formants and/or pitch. It's
possible Elliott could find info in some of Ladefoged's writings.
