That would fit, for mother and like.. After all, when you move
into a new area, you often have women from those you took their
lands from?

I know the Catholic church and Roman Emperors (Eastern and
Western) and many monarchs used the old, send them a bride, who
is christian, they will have their ladies and all, they will
raise the child, and child will be exposed to christianity and
next thing the king is christian (the new one), and people often
do what their king does, with in reason..

But back to the Welsh thing, father is Saxon or Norman, but he
marries a local gal, who is Welsh, the kids might learn some
Welsh (Cymbru?) from Mom and call her names of mother, while
they might call Dad either the Norman form, or the Saxon or
maybe even a modified welsh form?

Seen it done in mixed cultural families.. Some blending of the
two cultures happens, and the stronger for the first years of
their life is often their mothers culture, to a point. I know
with War Brides it is often more the fathers to a point, but if
she brings family over, then ... hum... mixture?

One of the reasons why some languages become simplified, is that
new people have to learn how to speak it, and they simplify it
and change it, cause of they did not learn it from birth, and
they have words of their own, and especially sounds and like
they use..

Like how W is often V for some of German immigrants, and their
kids get exposed, but ... hum..
