One can get low growling sounds out of a bull-roarer. Or a friction drum
(a la the Brazilian _cuica_). Or even a Very Long String Instrument (VLSI).
Then - of course - there are various trumpets, horns, etc. (esp'ly the
Tibetan _rag-dung_ horns)... And also amplified joybuzzer or vibrator would
also get a growl or two ;)
