Explaining linguistic terms to a non-linguist

Hi!

Was talking to an acquaintance of mine today, and got around to the subject
of what I was up to - reading Conlang posts. She showed an interest in the
hobby, and I tried explaining basic terms to her. Apparently I'm not the
best explainer in the world ;) :P I thought of Mark Rosenfelder's LCK. Would
that be OK as an introduction?

(She even showed an interest of joining the list! :) )
