I don't see why not. That's how I got going. I'm still not a linguist, but the discussion on this list and the plenitude of resources on the internet will provide a good basis for beginning linguistic study and conlanging [biased opinion alert] (which is the ultimate expression of linguistics IMO; just like composition is the ultimate expression of music :)) ) James W.
