Survived from Proto-Elven? ;)

Oh... Sounds a bit artificial. Note also that both have the root
structure forbidden in IE (ending in two sonants: _bhei-l-_, _mei-l-_).

This is from _*leubh-_: OHG _liob_, OE _lufu_, etc.; also preserved
in Slavic: Rus. (and Old Sl.) _ljub-_, Cz. (IIRC) _lib-_.
Hardly a Germanic loan, being the main common Sl. root for 'love',
'preferred', etc.
